(This is a novella / short short story of approximately 50 pages with a reading time of less than 90 minutes. It is the first installment of a four-book series.)
Five years ago an unknown virus divided the world into the living and the dead. Now, four survivors stumble into a winter sanctuary — the fermata, or grand pause, the place where a breath is taken. Brought together by circumstance, but bound by the will to stay alive, a concert pianist and a girl from South Boston forge both a friendship and a purpose. In a new reality where death no longer has a definition, the odyssey that began for them on the night of July 4, 2010 leads them to a destination neither can envision or anticipate.
